February Candidate Meet & Mingle and Chapter Endorsements

February Candidate Meet & Mingle and Chapter Endorsement Meeting
February 17, 2016
7:00pm-9:00pm
Camden Roosevelt Apartments (2101 16th Street NW)

The first two presidential primaries are behind us, and the next set are just days away. But the next White House occupant isn’t the only position we need to fill. Right here in the District of Columbia, the Chapter will hear from two candidates to represent the DC GOP to the Republican National Committee – Jill Homan and Bob Kabel – and a great pick for a DC at-large council seat in Dave Oberting.

But that’s not all! Six members of the Chapter are running to be delegates from the District to the Republican National Convention, where they will participate in the process to officially determine the GOP nominee who will replace Barack Obama and start putting this country back on the right track. Those members are:

Chris Allen, Chapter President
Gregory Angelo, National President
Joe Brooman
Stephen Jordan
Rick Oettinger
Justin Kingsolver

Come meet, drink, and mingle with these nine promising candidates who have earned unanimous endorsements from the Chapter Board of Directors and wish to earn your endorsement as well!

We look forward to seeing you!

Press Release: Log Cabin Republicans of DC Applaud LRAA Veto

WASHINGTON, DC – The DC Chapter of Log Cabin Republicans commends Mayor Gray for doing the right thing for all District residents and the local business community by vetoing the Large Retailer Accountability Act (LRAA).

“We are pleased to see that the Mayor saw through the misguided presentation from the LRAA’s advocates on the Council and special interest labor unions, and recognized the need to promote an environment in the District that attracts economic development and brings jobs to our residents across all Wards,” said President Chris Allen.  “The passage of the LRAA would have made the District rank No. 1 across the nation – No. 1 for worst environment for businesses.”

“We urge the Council to abandon any efforts to try to override the Mayor’s veto and instead take steps to improve the District’s tarnished reputation as a desirable location for new businesses.  The Council can achieve its goal of reducing unemployment and making wages go further by adopting policies that attract outside investment and by lower taxes. These actions will expand the tax base in the city, while also putting more money back into our residents’ pockets,” Allen concluded.

Log Cabin Republicans is a national organization started in 1977, with state and local chapters nationwide, which believes in low taxes, limited government, strong defense, free markets, personal responsibility, and individual liberty.  Log Cabin Republicans educates our party about why inclusion wins and that opposing gay and lesbian equality is inconsistent with the GOP’s core principles of smaller government and personal freedom.  The DC Chapter holds monthly meetings, supports inclusive local Republican candidates, and sponsors monthly social gatherings.  For more information, please visit www.dclogcabin.org.

Log Cabin Republicans of DC Urge Mayor Gray to Veto LRAA

WASHINGTON, DC – As the D.C. Council finally sends the “Large Retailer Accountability Act” (LRAA) to Mayor Gray, the DC Chapter of Log Cabin Republicans urges the Mayor to do the right thing for all District residents and the local economy and veto this unfair and discriminatory bill.

“As an organization that supports policies of limited government and free markets, we believe the LRAA not only unfairly targets large job-providers while exempting and grandfathering in the bills’ supporters that meet the same criteria, but it also diminishes the city’s business reputation to attract more outside investment,” said President Chris Allen.  “As our city struggles with a rising unemployment rate and a weak economic recovery, the last thing we need is to abandon the free market principles that determine price and wages through healthy competition, in favor of burdensome and imbalanced government interference.”

“The Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, Victor Hoskins, has estimated that the LRAA could cost as many as 3,000 to 4,000 jobs in the District.  The Mayor should continue to support policies that incentivize and attract businesses to the District like he did with Living Social and the DC Tech Incentives Program,” Allen concluded.
