About our candidates:

Marc Morgan is a candidate for an At-Large position on the D.C. City Council.  Marc serves Ward 1’s LeDroit Park Neighborhood as an ANC Commissioner and civic association leader. He has encouraged small business development, worked on public safety issues, and local sustainability initiatives. He wants to bring his commitment to leadership across our city. Nelson Rimensnyder is a candidate for D.C. And also: this meeting is also our Annual Meeting in which BOARD ELECTIONS will be held.

Per our By-Laws, May is when we hold our annual Board Officer Elections. The DC-LCR Board consists of nine positions, including: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and five At-Large positions. IN ORDER TO VOTE, YOU MUST BE CURRENT ON YOUR MEMBERSHIP DUES NO LATER THAN MIDNIGHT ON MAY 7TH.
Anyone interested in running for the board should submit a 3-5 sentence candidacy statement to chris.allen@dclogcabin.org by May 9th so that it can be included on the ballot.

As many of you may know, the DC-LCR Board is a working board made up of dedicated members who volunteer their time and resources to coordinate our Monthly Membership Meeting, Monthly Happy Hours, Social Events, Fundraisers, while also maintaining a presence on social media, our website, press releases, and Op-Eds on issues that represent the viewpoint of our members.

Trevor Burrus is a research fellow at the Cato Institute’s (@CatoInstitute) Center for Constitutional Studies. His research interests include constitutional, civil and criminal law, legal and political philosophy and legal history. His academic work has appeared in journals such as the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, the Albany Government Law Review, and the Syracuse Law Review. His popular writing has appeared in Forbes, USA Today, the Huffington Post, the New York Daily News and others. He is the editor of A Conspiracy Against Obamacare (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013).

Christian Berle is Legislative Director at Freedom to Work (@FreedomtoWork).  Before that, he served as Director of Communications and Coalitions for Richard Tisei for Congress Campaign in Massachusetts’ Sixth Congressional District. From 2009 through 2012, he served as Deputy Executive Director of the Log Cabin Republicans, overseeing the organization’s PAC, legislative and political operations, and all administrative matters. Previously, he served on the McCain for President Campaign in the coalitions and online media departments, worked in the Political Department of the National Federation of Independent Business and worked for the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, under Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME).

David Frum is a contributing editor at The Daily Beast and a CNN contributor. He is the
author of eight books, including most recently the e-book Why Romney Lost and his first novel, Patriots,
published in April 2012. In 2001-2002, he served as speechwriter and
special assistant to President George W. Bush.

He is a member of the board of the Republican Jewish Coalition and the reformist conservative
think tank, R Street. Frum is also president of the Frum Development
Group, a privately held real estate company in Toronto.

About our speakers:


Former Congressman Jim Kolbe served 11-terms in the U.S. House of Representatives representing the state of Arizona. He is currently a fellow at the German Marshall Fund think tank and a consultant at Kissinger McLarty Associates, where he focuses on issues of trade, aid and migration. In 2006, Rep. Kolbe co-sponsored the United American Families Act and recently testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee to amend the immigration bill to include a path to citizenship  or permanent residency for same-sex partners — including his own.


Immigration Equality is the first and only organization in the United States dedicated exclusively to achieving full equality for LGBT and HIV-positive immigrants.  Julie A. Kruse leads the national effort to pass the Uniting American Families Act and has over 15 years of experience working for LGBT, immigrant, and women’s rights and economic justice.  http://immigrationequality.org/

DC Council hearing on Marriage Equality
