Press Release: Log Cabin Republicans of DC Applaud LRAA Veto

WASHINGTON, DC – The DC Chapter of Log Cabin Republicans commends Mayor Gray for doing the right thing for all District residents and the local business community by vetoing the Large Retailer Accountability Act (LRAA).

“We are pleased to see that the Mayor saw through the misguided presentation from the LRAA’s advocates on the Council and special interest labor unions, and recognized the need to promote an environment in the District that attracts economic development and brings jobs to our residents across all Wards,” said President Chris Allen.  “The passage of the LRAA would have made the District rank No. 1 across the nation – No. 1 for worst environment for businesses.”

“We urge the Council to abandon any efforts to try to override the Mayor’s veto and instead take steps to improve the District’s tarnished reputation as a desirable location for new businesses.  The Council can achieve its goal of reducing unemployment and making wages go further by adopting policies that attract outside investment and by lower taxes. These actions will expand the tax base in the city, while also putting more money back into our residents’ pockets,” Allen concluded.

Log Cabin Republicans is a national organization started in 1977, with state and local chapters nationwide, which believes in low taxes, limited government, strong defense, free markets, personal responsibility, and individual liberty.  Log Cabin Republicans educates our party about why inclusion wins and that opposing gay and lesbian equality is inconsistent with the GOP’s core principles of smaller government and personal freedom.  The DC Chapter holds monthly meetings, supports inclusive local Republican candidates, and sponsors monthly social gatherings.  For more information, please visit www.dclogcabin.org.
