DC LOG CABIN ENDORSES PAT MARA |
|
| WASHINGTON, DC – The DC Chapter of Log Cabin Republicans last night unanimously voted to endorse Republican candidate Patrick Mara in the upcoming April 23rd special election to replace now-Council Chairman Phil Mendelson for his former At-Large seat. Mara is no novice at vying for an At-Large seat, having first ran in 2008 and then again coming in a close second during the 2011 special election.
“Pat has shown time and again that he is a friend of not just Log Cabin, but the entire LGBT community. Gays and lesbians of all political stripes know the true sense of Pat Mara. He was the first straight Republican Council candidate to show support for marriage equality five years ago. In addition, Pat has a greater depth of understanding of the issues affecting our community than just about anyone in this race,” said outgoing President Robert Turner II. “For this Council race, the choice is easy. We strongly support Pat Mara!” Turner concluded. All endorsed candidates support the core principles of the Log Cabin Republicans, which are limited government, individual liberty, personal responsibility, free markets and a strong national defense while advocating for the freedom and equality of gay and lesbian Americans. They also agree that marriage equality is settled law in the District of Columbia, and will not support efforts to change, repeal or overturn that law.
